The Muse 2014 | Lit Week

This spring, GrubStreet is hosting the nation's first-ever Lit Week: a week of awesome literary events and parties thrown by Boston's many literary enthusiasts. Lit Week 2014 will take place the week of April 27th, culminating in the Muse conference at week's end.

In the tradition of Restaurant Week or Fashion Week, we want Lit Week to give the public a taste of great writing and its possibilities. Events should be fun, high-energy, and with a low bar of entry-- we want them to attract fresh new audiences that perhaps have never attended a literary event before. We want to pierce a common public perception that literary events are intimidating, dull, insular, or irrelevant.

All Lit Week events will be promoted to the 900+ guest authors, writers, literary agents, and editors attending the Muse & the Marketplace conference, as well as to the 13,000 subscribers of our weekly Rag newsletter. They will also be featured on our Grub Daily blog (4,000 unique visitors/month), and the Grub website (6,200 unique visitors/month).

Ideally Lit Week events will be T-accessible. They might include readings, but we encourage "easily digestible," fun, and creative new takes on the traditional reading format. Your submission could be an event you already have planned or a new one altogether. It could accommodate 15 people or 150. Really, we're just looking for the most appealing stuff, and a good variety! Ideas include:

-A bookstore hosting a snazzy night of 1-minute readings
-A restaurant or bar naming a specialty cocktail or dinner special after a famous authors or book
-A karaoke venue turning one night into half karaoke, half slam-poetry.
-YOU hosting an impromptu "write-in," read-in, or salon at your local cafe, bar, laundromat, or hardware store-- why not?

Please fill out this form to submit your idea. If you have more than one, simply submit again. Applications are due by 5:00pm on Wednesday, April 2nd, and you'll hear from the selection committee by Monday, April 7th.
